IFFK 2011 DAY 2 – A DAY for FILMS & PROTEST

The second day of the 16th International Film Festival of Kerala got noticed due to the audience participation. The day was fully engaged with the screening of films in all the eleven theatres, a press meet with Jaya Bachan and several other cultural programmes.

A total of half a ton films hit the screens of the theatres. The Iranian film ‘A Separation’ for Asghar Farhadi won the award for the best director at IFFI 2011, Goa, was screened in the Kairali theatre. In the competition section, ‘Delhi in A Day’ by Malayali director Prashanth Nair was shown in Sree Padmanabha. Malayalam movie ‘Pakarnnatam’ enthralled the audience at Kairali. As a part of the retrospective package on Madhu, the movie Chemmeen was exhibited in Sree.

 

 

 

 

Ompuri inaugurated the art gallery organized as a part of IFFK today. Chalachitra academy chairman Priyadarshan, academy deputy director Sajitha Madathil, Sabu Cherian and Gandhimath Balan were also present.The still photographs of the locations designed by renowned art directors P.N. Menon, Sabu Cyril, Joseph Nellickal, Mani Duchitra and Prasanth Madhavan were exhibited in the show

Jaya Bachan met the press with Beena Paul, Menaka, Suresh Kumar and K.G. Santhosh at Kairali. While addressing the media she said the film festivals are the best platform for people to get an exposure to the world of cinema.

 

 

 

 

 

Minister for film and forest K.B. Ganeshkumar inaugurated the new venture called ‘Marketing Malayalam Cinema’ in a function held at Hotel Horizone.Chalachitra academy chairman Priyadarshan , directors Shaji N. Karun and Harikumar were also present.

 

 

 

 

Jury Chairman Bruce Berace participated ‘in a conversation with’ programme conducted at New theatre . There was an open forum on the topic ‘Freedom of Expression’ also at New in which Pandalam Sudhakaran and Priyadarshan partook.

 

Some tensions sprung up in the Kairali theatre due to controversies regarding the dropping of the movie ‘Aadimadhyantham’. Director of the movie Sherrey and the hero of the film Prajith arrived the theatre and participated in a strikeconvened by ‘Pu.Ka.Sa’.
