The literary buffs can never forget the innocent romance of Majeed
and Suhra and the new mathematical result discovered by Majeed, i.e,
‘One + One is equal to Immini Baliya Onnu.’ Vaikom Mohammed Basheer’s
famous novel ‘Balyakalasakhi’ is being made into a film by Pramod
Payyannor under the banner of Livin Arts and Aisthis Media.
When
this saga of childhood love is made into a film, definitely it
is going to provide a visual treat to all literature loving Malayali audience.
Megastar Mammootty will appear as Majeed on celluloid and the director
is in search of a new face to don Suhra’s role.
The production of the movie was inaugurated by Prof M.K. Sanu . The film which is expected to be shot in Kolkatta and Cochin will grace the silver-screen this year itself. K.Raghavan and Shahabas Aman will compose the music for the lyrics of P. Bhaskaran, O.N.V. Kurupu, Sreekumaran Thampi, Kavalam Narayanappanickar and K.T. Mohammed. In addition to these, a song tuned by G. Devarajan is also included in this flick.
The novel was first adapted for the filmic version by veteran director Sasikumar in the sixties for which Basheer himself had penned the script. Prem Nazeer and Sheela played the lead roles. The director said the new film is not a remake of the previous version. The earlier film neither "inspired nor influenced" him, he said, adding his work was a tribute to Basheer and his work. The novel was written by Basheer in Kolkata during the 1940s.
