The incomparable and irreplaceable Jagathy Sreekumar has managed to get himself entangled in many embarrassing controversies mainly due to his open and frank statements and not being the least bothered about other’s opinions.
He has provoked a few including Ranjini Haridas and now he has spotted young actor Asif Ali in his radar. Asif had remarked in a recent interview that he hoped to become a star in Jagathy’s mould and that like Jagathy, he too did not carry a mobile with him. Jagathy, in a recent channel show, remarked that merely by not carrying a mobile Asif was not going to be a good actor.
Jagathy also said that he had seen a few of Asif’s films and that he had to go a long way to become a good actor.
The comment from Jagathy struck a jarring note among the profusion of laurels and accolades showered on Asif by the film media who had created a special niche for him in the film world. Although Asif had received favourable reviews in one or two movies, Sibi Malayil’s film “Violin” where he was alone, did not do well at all. The recent release “Asuravathu” has received negative reviews and viewing this along with Jagathy’s statement makes it all the more crucial for Asif to give more attention to his acting. There is a feeling that the selection of “Asuravithu” was itself was a wrong choice.
