It has been four decades and yet the memories of super hit “Vazhve Mayam” starring the immortal Sathyan are still fresh in the minds of the older generation. And the reports says that the classic is being revived with Lal and Kavya Madhavan taking up Sathyan’s and Sheela’s roles respectively. The original film also had such stalwarts as Ummer, Govindan Kutty, Sankaradi, K P A C Lalitha and Bahadur.
The initial reports indicate that in the new version, Kunchacko Boban has Ummer’s role, Baburaj has Govindan Kutty’s, Biju Menon has Sankaradi’s Thesni Khan has K.P.A.C.Lalitha’s and Harisree Asokan has Bahadur’s role. Babu Janardanan-Shajoon Kariyal combination is bringing out the movie in the same name “Vazve Mayam’ whish is being produced by Ovi Mathew under the banner of Disco Entertainment.
Vazhve Mayam directed by Sethumadhavan was released in 1970. The legendry Sathyan gave a new meaning to acting by his passionate yet sensitive performance, proving that talent far outpaces glamour when it comes to character roles. Sathyan played the role of Sudhi, a suspicious husband in “Vazhve Mayam”. Lal, who shines in rough and tough character roles, has a terrific opportunity to open new avenues of acting when he takes up the role of an unattractive husband who suffers from inferiority complex. For Kavya Madhavan , after “Gaddama”, this is another great chance to cement her place as an actress. And Biju Menon gets the role of Sankaradi who bagged the best supporting actor award for this role.
The story by Pathrose Ayyaneth which carried the title “Vazhve Mayam” was made into a film of the same name. Three years ago, Ayyaneth died in an accident. This super hit Malayalam movie was remade in Tamil in 1982 with Kamalahasan and Sreedevi in the lead roles. The story written by Thoppil Bhasi is getting a rebirth with changes to conform to present day life.
