“Beautiful” starring Jayasurya, Anoop Menon and Meghna Sunderraj is a
directorial venture of V.K.Prakash.
Stephen Louis, played by Jayasurya is a paraplegic. In spite of his handicap,
Stephen is an optimist who enjoys every moment of his life and sees beauty in
all things. John, a musician, played by Anoop Menon, enters his life and they
become good friends. John is a worrier and is anxious about the future ahead
of him. However, even though their attitudes are poles apart, Stephen and John
enjoy each other’s company and feel happy together.
Things take a different turn with the arrival of the lovely home nurse Anjali,
played by Meghna. The twists and turns in their journey together after the arrival
of Anjali are beautifully and sensitively portrayed in the movie.
V.K.Prakash has tried to make the conversations both meaningful and
philosophical splashing a bit of humour and wit to go with it. At times the film
tends to move rather slowly but on the whole, the director has managed to make
the movie interesting.
Jayasurya as Stephen has given probably his best performance till date. In
a situation where he could have easily fallen in to the trap of overacting, his
controlled and subtle speech and movements make the paraplegic larger than
life. Anoop Menon is confirming his growing stature as an accomplished actor
by yet another restrained and powerful performance. And the bold role of Anjali
is handled with remarkable ease and freshness by Meghna Sunderraj. The
supporting cast contribute their share quite adequately as well.
'Beautiful' is a unique portrayal of that great emotion 'love' which binds man to
one another through life's journey. The movie might raise a controversy for some
of the uninhibited scenes, but V.K.Prakash has taken an unusual subject for the
movie and for the discerning viewer, the film has plenty to offer. The director has
not made compromises, had the courage to portray life as it is and as a result,
the film rises above the ordinary run-of-the-mill Malayalam movies and makes the
audience think. It could become one of the best films of the year exceeding all
expectations.
Verdict: Beautiful Movie.
