“Kadhalil Sodhapuvadu Yeppadi” begins with Arun (Sidharth), an engineering student, lamenting about his failed love affair and how much he and Parvathi (Amala Paul) loved each other and how foolishly they fell apart due to their personal egos.
And then he watches his bosom pal repeating the same mistakes and suddenly he realises his deep love for Parvathi and how depressing life is without her. He wants her back and how does he manage to get his love back? “Kadhalil Sodhapuvadu Yeppadi” describes Arun’s efforts to make up with Parvathi and how it all ends up.
Sidharth as Arun has done a decent job looking as confusing as a young man in such a position would be. He looks smart and active and looks a natural. Amala Paul is pretty and jibes well with Sidharth. She too has given a good performance. Suresh and Surekha Vani are apt for the roles while the rest of the cast did their bit as required.
The film is directed by Balaji Mohan who has tried to avoid unnecessary add-ons and has succeeded in presenting a simple story with simple script ignoring the commercial angle. Cinematography is very impressive in the hands of Nirav Shah. Music by Thaman has also stuck to the basics and the songs are endearing. Dialogues are pertinent and interspersed with humour. Sadly, the screenplay lets one down in the second half considering the possibilities with such an impressive story.
The presentation is appealing, script is novel but the screenplay and narration could have been better in the second half. The protagonist speaking directly to the camera is a novel idea to Telugu cinema and Siddharth does it effectively. The first half is entertaining with lots and lots of romance and uproarious scenes keeping the audience entertained but the second half becomes a drag with melodrama and a few unnecessary twists.
Verdict: Romantic Entertainer
