My Big Father Review.

Guinness Pakru, the actor with a two feet height, had become the favourite of Malayalee masses in no time. An actor who entered Guinness book of records for being the shortest actor to play the role of a protagonist in a movie, Pakru alias Ajayakumar is now a regular name in all comedy subjects. The idea of posting Pakru as the father of a notable actor was itself a worthy subject on paper, which will be translated on screen in the new movie 'My Big Father'. Directed by Mahesh P Sreenivasan, the movie is planned as a hilarious comedy.
The movie will have Pakru as Albie, the proprietor of a famous catering shop. He was a man who can correct the taste even by getting the aroma of a preparation. In his younger days, his only wish was to have a son with a normal height. His dreams got fulfilled as his only Son Kunjumon (played by Jayaram) grew to six feet and managed to become a successful businessman, operating a catering service.
Though Albie was famous for his recipes, his son Kunjumon doesn't get a proper marriage due to this dwarf father who was the laughing stock of many. Kunjumon is adamant that he will only agree to marry a girl who don't make fun of his father and the one who will look after him in his later stage. Albie tries many ways to get his son married, which all proves in vain. And, now Albie works out a different plans which will help his son to get a proper suitable bride. One such idea clicks and Kunjumon gets married to Ancy (Kaniha) whom he meets in a mall. Though Ancy has no problems with her two feet tall father-in-law, certain unexpected problems create big changes in the life of Albie and Kunjumon. 'My Big Father' will be the third movie from Pazhassi fame Kaniha, in recent times. Her two other films like 'Bhagyadevatha' and 'Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja' were two big hits of the year. Also in the cast are Jagathy, Innocent, Devan, Salim Kumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Baburaj, Krishnapriya and Fathima Babu. Scripted by Suresh Menon and Satheesh K Sivan, the movie is cinematographed by Vipin Mohan. While Alex Paul is in charge of the music section, Raja Mohammad does the editing. The movie produced by P A Sebastian in the banner of Time ads entertainments graced the theatres on December 4th with above average audience.
After some time again there is a film with usual story and unusual screenplay, over view of the film is about father Kunjumon and his son Abi. Father and son together running a catering service, father is a specialist in making biriyani in his suburbs. He could tell the quality of food just by smelling it once. He has a responsibility of finding a bribe for his only son. Till now it may be a usual story but the odd one is, the father is a dwarf and son is normal. And their height difference is made as a fun by the people around, so son Abi decides to find a girl who really understands him and his father. For the couple of odd hours that I was watching My Big Father, I was actually wondering if the film was trying to be empathetic to its lead actor who is a dwarf. Soon it was pretty obvious that the film makers had no such intentions in their minds, and instead were merely on the lookout for cooking up some insane laughter.
Most of the jokes in My Big Father are about being small. So we have Pakru being tossed about, shoved into suitcases, pushed into cradles and pampered with feeding bottles. There are also any number of verbal insults being hurled on him, that could be taken as jokes or as sheer tasteless attempts at humor.
There is no denying the honest performances from Jayaram and Pakru in the film. They are quite good, though this certainly isn't an opportunity to display their abilities. Its sad really since Pakru is as convincing as he can get in a film that is as goofy as it can get. Kaniha knows for sure that Ancy is no Kaitheri Makkam, and goes about her business with a casual coldness.Kaniha, who is riding high in Malayalam looks evidently out-of-place in her brief role. Innocent, Suraj Venjarammood, Salim Kumar and Jagathy Sreekumar tries to be funny with their usual numbers, but fails to impress. Vipin Mohan's camera is okay but the music department (lyrics by Sarath Vayalar and music by Alex Paul) sounds ordinary.
My Big Father is strikingly similar to Tiptoes (2003) and suffers from the very same glitches that the latter film has. The premise that it heavily banks on, never really has a solid base in the first place. And with a plot that is all set to crumble into pieces, this father-son duo will struggles to set for a winning streak at the box office. To director of this film, 'My BigFather is a big movie as far better than his earlier flick Changaathippocha !!
