‘Dirty Picture’, a biopic of the sexy lady of days of yore Silk Smitha, by Milan Lutharia, draws attention to the struggling female actors of 80’s on the whole whose insuperable and unconquerable spirit made them emerge triumphant and create a distinctive space for themselves in the male-dominated industry.
It's a recreation of an era, with the makers seeking motivation from a lot of characters to create this one woman.
Featuring the transient rise and abrupt fall of the queen of sensuality, Dirty picture is set in the context of 80’s. The quest for love of Silk Smitha , her unfortunate encounter with dishonesty and infidelity , her step fall from the stardom, consequent loneliness in life and eventual suicide is vibrantly pictured in this movie. The duplicity of the world hungering for sex celebrated her as the scum of the earth. She shocks the awe a staid society that dwells in fakeness.
Vidya Balan plays the lead role in ‘Dirty Picture’. Naseerudheen Shah, Emraan Hashmi , Tushar Kapoor, Anju Mahendroo and Rajesh Sharma play the other major characters. Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor produced the movie. Rajesh Aroraa writes the dynamic and sharp script. The music s directed by Vishakh Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani. Balaji and Milan Luthria team up again after their smash hit, Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, to create a dazzling and spectacular musical entertainer that is already in the news for being the most keenly anticipated drama of the year.
THE DIRTY PICTURE is blown up with several powerful sequences like the one in which Vidya convinces Naseeruddin Shah, after he refuses to work with her the first encounter with Emraan Hashmi or the volatile sequence at the awards ceremony [the intermission point] is amongst the highpoints of the enterprise.
Vidya's interaction with the maker of porn movies is another shocking twist. The finale, of course, moves you no end. Vidya’s dare-bare and scintillating performance makes every viewer dazed in front of the big screen.
On the whole, the film is a real entertainer which offers some food for thought.
VERDICT : Entertainment... Entertainment... Entertainment ..!
