Jayam Ravi - Biography

Jayam Ravi (born Ravi Mohan on September 10, 1980 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India) is a Tamil film actor. He debuted in the film Jayam released in 2002 produced by his father Mohan and directed by his brother M. Raja. He is a martial arts expert and a trained bharatanatyam dancer. He also learned martial arts for the character in his second film, M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi. Prior to acting, Ravi had been an assistant director to Suresh Krishna in the 2001 film Aalavandhan.
Ravi was born to film editor Mohan and Varalakshmi Mohan. He has one brother, M. Raja, who is a film director. He also has a sister, Roja Mohan, who is a dentist. He completed his schooling at Jawahar Vidyalaya in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. He studied dancing with the bharatnatyam dancer Nalini Balakrishnan and performed his arangetram at the age of 12. After completing his degree in Visual Communications from Loyola College Chennai, he decided to get into the acting industry. He has also undergone training in acting with Kishore Namit Kapur Institute in Mumbai.
Jamya Ravi debuted in Jayam (2003), produced by his father and directed by his brother M. Raja.It run successful up to 200 days.This film won state award for best movie in 2003. Hence, he decided to add the name "Jayam" to his name Ravi. His next venture was M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi with Asin in 2004.He won state award for best actor in 2005.The film will became a Mega hit and music was compoesed by Srikanth Deva. Then came Daas (2004) which mark 100 days in threates and term as Average Hit.Mazhai, a remake of the Telugu movie Varshamis also became a Average Hit. His next was Idhaya Thirudan under director Saran. Something Something Unakkum Enakkum (2006) which turned out to be a Super Mega Hit. It make a huge mark on tamilfilm industry.Trisha Krishnan act along side Ravi in the film. His next film Deepavali under director Ezhil's direction released February 2007. This film, which saw him pairing with Bhavana Balachandran, was a moderate hit. After this came Santhosh Subramaniam under his lucky mascot and brother M. Raja's direction. The film which released in April 2008 was termed a blockbuster. Jayam Ravi's latest, Dhaam Dhoom, the last directorial venture of the late cinematographer-director Jeeva, was released on August 2008. Dhaam Dhoom had the biggest opening of Jayam Ravi's career, but the film turned out to be huge flop. Peranmai, with director S. P. Jananathan, is currently under production.
