Jayaraj was born to Rajasekharan Nair and Savithri on August 1964. He has completed his graduation from CSM college, Kottayam. After that he took Diploma in Engineering from Trivandrum Institute of engineering He came to film field as Asisstant to Bharathan in the picture "Chillambu". And after that he had directed the filim Vidyarambham. Johnnywalker, Kudumbasametham, Paithrikam, Sopanam, Highway, Desadanam, Kaliyattam, Santham, Thilakkam, 4 The people etc are some of his films. He became popular by directing the picture Desadanam. In 1992 his Film "Kudumbasamedam" got the State Award for the second Best film. In 1996 he got State Award for the Best Director for "Desadanam". In 1999 Best Film was Jayaraj's "Karyunyam". In 1997 he got the National Award for Best Film Director for the Film Kaliyattam. Again in 2000 he got the National Award for Best Film Director for the film "Santham". Costumer Sabitha is his wife and have one daughter.
