“1983”, a film based on the game of cricket and with Nivin Pauly as the hero has hit the theatres in Kerala and the reports coming in indicate a very good response from the fans. Directed by fashion photographer Abrid Shine, the story is all about a group of young men from a small village called Brahmapuram. The story begins with the joyous expressions on each face as India lifts the 1983 world cup beating the West Indies and then goes through the turmoil of a mechanic father and his cricket-crazy son.
Nivin Pauly acts as the cricket obsessed Ramesh who is the best batsman in Brahmapuram, and Joy Mathew appears as Gopiyashan, his father who does not understand his son’s madness and wants him to become an engineer. Ramesh does not reach anywhere in cricket but fulfills his dream vicariously through his son. Playing with Ramesh is a group of young men played by Saiju, Kurup, Sanju and others. Nikki Galrani and Srinda Ashab are the heroines. Screenplay is by Ajin Krishna and the movie is produced by Shamsiddin under the banner of L J Films. Music is by Gopi Sunder.
