Yes, the biggest hit ever in Malayalam film history ' Drishyam' completes the hundredth day of its golden run on 28 th of March. Hyperboles became a norm when this film started to smash every box office record in the Malayalam film history. Released on December 19 in a comparatively low key manner the movie caught fire by the end of first week as positive word of mouth of the most infectious kind started to spread about the movie. Families thronged the theatres and release centres were increased and housefull boards became a regular feature in front of all the theatres right from the multiplexes to the theatres in even the most obscure corners of the state. By the end of a month of its run this Jeethu Joseph directed movie smashed the record set by the iconic multi starrer movie 'Twenty 20'. Interestingly 'Drishyam' surpassed that movie's 120 day collections just in 30 days.
The gigantic hit is set to complete its 100 th day in a whopping 43 centres, a record unheard of in Malayalam film history. When it completed 95 days ' Drishyam' had an astonishing 23500 shows. Even in small town centres like Nedumangad, Chalakkudy, Aluva etc. this family thriller ran to packed houses. Even during the heydays of Malayalam cinema no film caused this much of a stir. 'Drishyam' had completed 50 days in a staggering 71 centres. The film didnt restrict itself to the borders of Kerala or India. In multiplexes in Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad etc. and in theatres in the middle east, UK,USA etc. it became a rage.
The movie collected 1 crore rupees from a single multiplex that too in 50 days(PVR cinemas, Lulu Mall, Kochi). In the capital city the film has set the record for most number of people seeing a movie. 'Drishyam' has redefined success and has set a bench mark for movies. It would be a very tough task to replicate its success, let alone over power it. Drishyam's astonishing success will be written in golden letters in the history of Malayalam cinema.
